Graduation Etiquette

Like I said in an earlier post, I attended a high school graduation this weekend.  I graduated from high school many years ago with a graduating class of 20 students.  The graduating class yesterday had about 425 students in their class.  The graduation was held at the Civic Arena in St. Joseph.  All of the students were seated on the floor of the arena and all those there to support the graduates.  There were some families who came in late--so that they didn't have to sit through the speeches, music, etc.  Others left as soon as their student received their diploma instead of waiting for the entire ceremony to be over.

Am I wrong to think that everyone should've sat through the entire ceremony?  Afterall, their child only graduates from high school once.

  1. No, you are not wrong, its just common courtesy to those around you and to the kids graduating.
I wondered last week about the kids lack of respect in their own graduation dress and I was gently reminded that it goes back to the parents attitudes. Kids are not taught to be respectful anymore and they grow up to be parents so the cycle perpetuates.
